Women’s Council of Ireland calls for more long-term childcare supports

Concern has been raised over long-term ‘income inequalities’ among poor families.

The National Women’s Council of Ireland has highlighted once-off measures in their Budget analysis today.

They believe single payments to support women and families will help with the cost of living this winter.

But Orla O’Connor, Director of the Council, believes that long term provisions are needed to help prevent poverty down the line:

The Children’s Minister says he wants to see further cuts to childcare costs in subsequent budgets.

Minister Roderic O’Gorman has been speaking after a 25 per cent cut in creche fees has been proposed from January onwards.
