Cabinet is expected to approve a bill to create a new gambling regulator this morning.
The body will be given powers to regulate advertising, gambling websites and apps with a responsibility to focus on public wellbeing.
The Gambling Regulation Bill will also provide for a new approach to the licensing of gambling in Ireland.
A designate CEO for the Gambling Regulatory Authority has been appointed ahead of the legislation being passed by the Oireachtas.
