The Terrorism threat level in Northern Ireland has been increased from substantial to severe.
Following an intelligence assessment by MI5, the risk of an attack has moved from ‘likely’ to ‘very likely’.
It follows a rise in dissident republican activity in the North, most recently the attempted murder of Detective Chief Inspector John Caldwell in Omagh last month.
