Donegal County Council is to examine the potential use of solar powered compacting bins in Letterkenny as part of a review of bin provision in the area.
Cllr Jimmy Kavanagh told a Municipal District meeting there are too many complaints about the lack of bins in the town.
He said solar compacting bins are all over Dublin, but he noticed them last week in Carrick on Shannon. They hold 10 times more than ordinary bins, and send electronic messages to the council when they are full.
