A man’s been killed in a road collision between an e-scooter and a van in Co. Sligo.
It happened just after 8 o’clock last night in the townland of Rusheen, Riverstown.
The man who was aged in his 50’s was on the e-scooter when he was hit by the van. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the van who is aged in his 30’s is being treated for minor injuries at Sligo University Hospital.
The L1303 road is currently closed while a forensic collision investigation is carried out and Gardaí are appealing for witnesses.
Last night’s death means the same number of people have been killed on Irish roads so far in 2023, matches to total number of lives lost for the entirety of 2022.
155 people have died in road collisions – up 36 on the same time last year.
It comes ahead of a high visibility road safety campaign for the October bank holiday weekend.
