As of mid-November approximately 50,000 homes, farms and businesses in Donegal have had a smart meter installed.
The National Smart Metering Programme aims to help customers use electricity more efficiently, reduce consumption or choose a suitable smart meter tariff from their supplier, meaning more control over electricity costs.
ESB have now successfully installed 1.5 million smart meters nationwide.
