Discussions over welfare payments for Ukrainian refugees to take place this week

Ministers will discuss this week whether to drastically cut welfare payments for Ukrainian refugees.

The government has admitted its struggling to cater for the number of asylum seekers coming into Ireland – and announced earlier this week that it can no longer guarantee accommodation for all arrivals.

Under proposals going to Cabinet in the coming days, payment given to Ukrainians every week could be slashed by over 180 euro to bring it into-line with what people in Direct Provision receive.
