Glenties MD Councillors pay tribute to Cllr Noreen McGarvey as meeting is cancelled as a mark of respect

A meeting of the Glenties Municipal District was adjourned this morning as a mark of respect to the late Cllr Noreen McGarvey who died during Christmas week.

The meeting will reconvene next month.

It had been expected that this morning’s meeting would heart tributes to Cllr McGarvey before being adjourned, but Cathaoirleach Cllr Michael McClafferty says he chose not to do so because Cllr McGarvey’s Fianna Fail colleague Cllr Anthony Molloy was absent due to illness.

Cllr McClafferty says tributes will be paid when the MD reconvenes in five weeks time……….

Cllr Marie Therese Gallagher says one of the reasons the Glenties Municipal District is seen as a very united body is that during her time in the chamber, Cllr Noreen McGarvey was a unifying force………….

Cllr John Sheamais O’Fearraigh echoes that, remembering a committed constituency representative who was also an excellent Cathaoirleach……………

Echoing the thoughts of everyone present, Cllr Michael Cholm MacGiolla Easbuig said he hasn’t just lost a colleague, he’s lost a friend………..
