Donegal hockey player gets game time against world’s number one side

Luke Witherow, front centre, is hoping to get more game time in the matches ahead as Ireland prepare for the Olympic Games.

Donegal’s Luke Witherow got some game time as a substitute for Ireland as they played the Netherlands, who are the number one ranked hockey team in the world,  in their first ever FIH Pro League game in Bhubaneswar, India on Saturday.

Ireland defended well in the opening stages but in the end were beaten 5-1.

Witherow plays his club hockey with Banbridge.
