Oireachtas committee to quiz bankers, insurers and engineers on their response to defective block homeowners

An Oireachtas committee will meet this afternoon to discuss issues related to Defective Concrete Blocks.

The meeting at 1.30pm in Committee Room 3 of Leinster House will hear from representatives from the Banking and Payments Federation of Ireland, Insurance Ireland, and Engineers Ireland.

The Joint Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach has previously heard from homeowners affected by defective blocks used in the construction of their dwellings of some of the difficulties they have faced with banks around mortgages and financing remedial works.

Now, Committee Chair Deputy John McGuinness says the committee welcomes the engagement with the Banking and Payments Federation, Insurance Ireland and Engineers Ireland, and looks forward to discussing the mortgage and bank financing and the treatment of mortgage holders impacted by defective blocks in Donegal, Mayo and other affected counties.

The Joint Committee has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad. The membership includes Donegal TD Pearse Doherty, the Sinn Fein Finance Spokesperson.

The meeting, in Committee Room 3, can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV, and via the Oireachtas website HERE
