More than half of the public want to see the TV license fee scrapped and replaced with State funding.
A poll conducted by Amarach Research for the Daily Mail found 53% of people surveyed want the fee scrapped while just 29% want to maintain it.
Sales of the license have dropped by €22 million since the recent scandals in RTE.
