Over €200,000 worth of illegal tobacco and cigarettes destined for Donegal found at Dublin Port

There has been a major seizure of illegal cigarettes and tobacco destined for Donegal at Dublin port, the value of which is estimated to be valued at €206,600.

Herbal cannabis due to be transported to Carlow was also seized.

Revenue made the seizure over the course of last week.

The total value of which is to be estimated at €826,000.

Items that were destined for Donegal include 210kg of tobacco branded ‘Virginia’, with an estimated value of €173,100 and 40,000 cigarettes, branded ‘John Player’, with an estimated value of €33,500.

These had a total estimated loss to the exchequer of €156,300.

The illicit tobacco and cigarettes were seized with the assistance of detector dog Waffle.

They were found in a consignment of jigsaw puzzles which had originated from Poland.

Investigations into all of these seizures are ongoing.
