Gardaí are in the process of buying two water-cannons from Dutch police.
In the past year they’ve been borrowing water cannons from the North’s PSNI.
These were on standby following the recent violent scenes at Coolock in Dublin, earlier this Summer.
However Gardaí have confirmed a procurement process is now underway for the purchase of water cannon, and communications with other police services and manufacturers are ongoing.
