Tanaiste says Israel offensive in Gaza is a “war crime”

The Tánaiste says the horrific scenes unfolding in northern Gaza must stop.

It follows an offensive by Israeli Defence Forces, backed by tanks and air strikes, which has left dozens of civilians dead.

Micheál Martin says an entire population is being forced out, with nowhere to go.

He says it’s a war crime, and he’ll be raising Ireland’s concerns at an EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting in Luxembourg tomorrow.

Taoiseach Simon Harris has called for the immediate stop of all Israeli attacks in both Lebanon and north Gaza.

He says it’s deliberately targeting and abusing civilians, which is a “flagrant disregards for international law”.

This week, the Taoiseach will travel to Brussels to attend the EU-Gulf Cooperation Council Summit and the European Council.

He says the Middle East will be on the agenda.
