A group of older people affected by defective concrete blocks attended a recent meeting of Donegal County Council’s DCB committee this week to highlight their plight.
They told members they cannot afford to engage with the scheme as it stands, as there is no way they can raise the upfront funds necessary to begin work on the remediation of their homes.
Cllr Martin Scanlon suggested that people in that position be prioritised by the council officials administering the scheme, and that the authority examine the possibility of VAT exemptions, and the upfront payment of auxillary grants.
