Over 1,600 North West patients were without beds at some point in April

Last month was the worst April on record for hospital overcrowding, with 1,631 admitted patients awaiting beds in the region at some point over the month.

The Sligo University Hospital figure was 903, the Letterkenny figure was 728.

Nationally, more than 11,000 d patients were awaiting beds at some point.

The INMO says the number of people being treated on trolleys and other inappropriate settings is inexcusable.
