Research shows 20% of people killed in house fires were five times over legal drink-driving limit

About one-fifth of people who died in fires between 2014 and 2021 had a blood alcohol level five times the legal drink-driving limit.

New research from the Health Research Board also shows men accounted for seven in 10 alcohol-related fire deaths, while 42% were smokers.

Saturday was the most common day for alcohol-related fatal fires.
