In this week’s Business Matters Chris Ashmore pays a trip to Convoy to find out all about the Ulster Mead Company.
Widely regarded as the world’s oldest alcoholic drink, mead is sometimes called “honey wine” and is made by fermenting pure honey with water, sometimes infused with fruits, spices, herbs, or parts of plants to create distinctive flavour profiles.
The company was founded in 2021 by two Polish natives Kuba Blaszczok and Tomasz Rotuski. Based in the old Woollen Mills in Convoy, they now have three mead flavours and also produce a number of herbal wines.
The company is building up an increasing customer base, is venturing into Northern Ireland and recently got a significant order from SuperValu.
