Inishowen Cllr Albert Doherty has announced that he will be stepping back from his Council duties over the coming months following a recent cancer diagnosis.
In a statement shared on social media, which has been met with an outpouring of support from across the political spectrum, the Sinn Féin representative said he is receiving brilliant care at Letterkenny University Hospital and thanked the staff.
Cllr Doherty also expressed his gratitude to the local community.
He has asked that anyone with Council-related queries contact the constituency office of Deputy Pádraig Mac Lochlainn during his absence.
