WATCH: Dewhirst finishes fifth in World U20 400m hurdles final

Donegal’s Fintan Dewhirst, who runs for Tir Chonaill AC had a great run to finish fifth at the World Under-20 athletics championships in Oregan in the United States.

Running from the inside lane, he clocked 51.05 seconds in the men’s 400m hurdles final. The race was won by Michal Rada of Czechia in a superb 48.59.

Dewhirst was second in the first round while in the semi-finals he ran 50.53 to finish third and book his place in the final.

The young Glenties man was a silver medalist at the 2022 European Athletics U18 Championships, and recently he won the 400 metres hurdles for his first senior national title at the  2026 Irish Athletics Championships.
