Planned strike action for next week suspended

Wednesday’s public sector strike has been suspended.

The Irish Congress of Trade Unions says this follows discussions with Government representatives over the last 24 hours.

An independent third party will be appointed to manage a process aimed at building the basis for formal talks.

ICTU says this process could get underway as soon as tomorrow morning, but work-to-rule action will continue.

The Taoiseach has expressed his hope this initiative can allow for meaningful negotiations.
