Damien Mc Nulty volleyed a wonderful equaliser for Finn Harps at Sligo Rovers on Saturday night.
The defender’s goal came with only 8 minutes to go and was just rewards for a Harps team who played well in the second half.
A floodlight failure close to the end caused a lengthy delay and with no sign of the lights being fixed, match referee, Padraig Scilly eventually blew for full time.
A decision on whether or not the 1-1 scoreline will stand as a result now rests with the league.
Sligo went in front on 11 minutes when Regan Donelon’s cross from the left was headed in by Chris Lyons.
Harps stopper Richard Brush, playing against his former club, was the busier of the two keepers in a very open first half. He produced a fabulous save to deny Gavin Peers from close range and also did well to beat out Kieran Sadlier’s rasping free kick.
At the other end, Harps created a few openings of their own. Tony Mc Namee was released on goal but Michael Schlingermann saved at his feet.
Adam Hanlon also had a shot blocked as Harps enjoyed a good spell.
But Sligo probably should have been further in front at the break with Peers again going close with another header just before half time.
Harps went close again just after half time when a Hanlon free was diverted just over by Ryan Curran.
In fairness to the visitors, they played much better as the second half wore on and their efforts were rewarded with Mc Nulty’s equaliser.
