Nicky Rackard Cup semi-final result: Donegal 2-11 (17) v Mayo 1-18 (21)
Donegal’s hurlers lost to Mayo in the semi-final of the Nicky Rackard Cup at O’Donnell Park this afternoon.
Mayo started the brighter, notching up four straight points in the opening minutes.
Donegal finally got on the scoreboard with a goal from Ciaran Matthewson, which was followed by a point from Lee Henderson.
Mayo were made to work hard by Donegal to stay narrowly ahead, but as half-time approached, Mayo increased the gap and went in at the break ahead by five points on 1-05 v 0-13.
Mayo resumed the second half as they had the first by notching up the points and scored two and a goal to extend their lead to 10 points with the score at Donegal 1-05 (8) v 1-15 (18) Mayo.
Donegal struck back with five successive points without a response from Mayo to reduce the gap to five points.
Donegal’s Danny Cullen then scored a goal to reduce the gap to two points.
But it wasn’t enough of a fight back and Mayo ran out winners to reach the Nicky Rackard Cup Final.
