Donegal ease past Fermanagh to reach Ulster Championship semi-final

Donegal’s senior footballers beat Fermanagh today as they bid to win their fourth Ulster championship in six years.
Patrick McBrearty and Frank McGlynn got the first scores to set Rory Gallagher’s men on their way to the easy win in front of a home crowd of nearly 16,000 at MacCumhaill Park in Ballybofey.
The live action for Ulster Championship Sunday on Highland Radio got off a frenetic start with Fermanagh quickly drawing level with two scores.
But Martin O’Reilly hit another point to re-establish Donegal’s lead and then Odhran MacNiallais (pictured) netted a goal to widen the gap.
Neil McGee was sent off as the game approached half-time and at the break, the Ulster champions of 2011, 2012, 2014 were ahead on a score of Donegal 1-6 (9) v 0-7 (7) Fermanagh.
McGee will now miss the Ulster semi-final against Monaghan in two weeks’ time on Saturday, June 25, at 7pm in Breffni Park, Cavan. A possible replay date has been pencilled in for Sunday, July 3.
Michael Murphy got the second half under way with a fine point and a second goal, nine minutes in to the second half, came again from Odhran MacNiallais, who palmed the ball into the net.
Fermanagh fell away in the second half and posed little threat, going nearly 20 minutes without scoring.
Former Fermanagh manager Dominic Corrigan’s son Tomas pointed on 56 minutes to make it Donegal 2-10 (16) v 0-9 (9) Fermanagh, but there was no late comeback and Donegal closed out the game to win by seven points.
