Donegal Live Register figures continue to fall

There were 2,000 less people on the live register in Donegal last month when compared to June of 2015
The live register figure in Donegal now stands at just short of 16,000.
All offices across Donegal recorded a fall in those signing on last month compared to the same time a year ago.
The numbers signing on in Letterkenny fell by 10% over the year with the total signing on now just under 5,000.
The percentage fall in Inishowen was greater – a drop of 16% to 2,840.
The number in Dungloe is down 9% to 1,747 and down 13% in Dunfanaghy to 1,092.
In the south of the county only 5% less people signed on last month in Ballyshannon compared to June 2015 in Donegal Town, 903 people were signing on.
In Kilybegs, there were 910 people on the register last month down 7%.
The the Finn Valley area, 2,194 people remain on the live register – that is a fall of 7.5% compared to June of last year.
There are varying views on what has resulted in the overall reduction, with some sighting job creation and an improved economy with others pointing to emegration and government job schemes skewing the figures.
