Mark English finished second to Olympic Champion David Rudisha in a 500m race in Newcastle, England on Saturday.
In the build up to the Great North Run, the Great North City Games are held on the streets of Newcastle city.
In his first race over the rarely-run distance and in front of 25,000 spectators, Rudisha clocked 57.69, the fastest ever recorded.
English, who was last year’s winner, clocked 57.91 for second with Martyn Rooney third in 59.02.
