Deputy Charlie McConalogue has welcomed confirmation from Irish water that water mains improvement works will be carried out at Cloontagh, Clonmany.
The Fianna Fáil TD described this as an ongoing problem in the area and has been the source of much frustration among local residents and businesses.
Confirmation was received from Irish Water that the replacement of the 1.1km of problematic water mains at Cloontagh, Clonmany has finally been approved.
Deputy McConalogue describes that the next process is to undertake detailed design of the new pipe work, put it to tender, and procure a contractor to carry out the construction works.
The project is hoped to get to construction stage by June 2017.
Deputy McConalogue says, while he welcomes the news that this problem is now going to resolved, it is important that there are no delays in the design and procurement process given that construction is not due to start for at least another 6 months.
