There was a national increase of 115% in the number of home-building projects given the green light in the third quarter of the year.
In Donegal, the increase was just over 22%.
Nationally, 5,814 dwelling units got planning permission, according to the CSO, between July and September, compared to 2,704 in the same period of last year.
In Donegal, the rise in new dwellings was more modest, rising from 62 between July and September last year to 72 in 2016.
Overall planning permissions rose by 25% in Donegal in the third quarter of this year, with permission for 77 commercial, retail and community buildings, compared to 48 last year.
Meanwhile, 78 extensions were approved in the third quarter of this year compared to 80 in 2015.
