Health Minister Simon Harris has committed to progress Type 1 diabetes services and care in Donegal.
At a meeting with Minister Harris and local elected representatives, the Donegal Diabetes Committe heard promises that approval has been given to appoint a paediatric consultant and a second endocrinologist at Letterkenny University Hospital.
Minister Harris has also proposed that a Centre of Excellance be established in the North West.
Paul Gillespie, a member of the Donegal Diabetes Committee says the centre is initially ear marked for Sligo but he is confident a shared centre for Donegal can be established:
