Funding sought to reopen Short Stay Ward at LUH

The Saolta Hospital Group has confirmed additional staff is being sought for Letterkenny University Hospital.
In the past number of days, a Short Stay Ward at the hospital closed and its functions were located to another newly vacated area.
Now, Saolta says it wants additional staff to allow the former short stay ward reopen to increase capacity.
The ward has been relocated to the newly vacated single room accomodation on Medical 3 and 4.
Saolta says Letterkenny University Hospital does not have the surplus nursing and support staff required to keep an additional 20 beds open.
It is believed that in plans to undertake a major refurbishment of the Medical Rehabilitation Ward at St Conals hospital site patients may be relocated to the former short stay ward.
Saolta says the initiative would in no way compromise the availability of the short stay ward to be reopened in order to address emergency admission pressures.
