Donegal were never really challenged as they comfortably strolled past an inexperienced Cavan side 2-14 to 1-8 in Sunday’s Ulster Championship Quarter-Final in Breffni Park. Goals from Paddy McBrearty and Rory Kavanagh proved to be the key behind Donegal’s second win of the Ulster GAA Football Championship. McBrearty, who is still eligible to play in the Minor grade, managed to finish his first senior start for his county with an impressive 1-3 and could give himself a good shout for a starting position in the semi final against Tyrone at the end of the month. The win did come at a cost for Jim McGuinness’s men when star full-forward and captain Michael Murphy was given a straight red card for shouldering. The decision was a harsh one by the referee but had Cavan not had Ray Cullivan sent off after seven minutes of play, Murphy’s card could have been different. The management team of Donegal have confirmed that they will appeal the red card that the Glenswilly forward received yesterday.
Assistant to Manager Jim Mc Guinness is Rory Gallagher, he gave his reaction after the win to Charlie Collins.
Forward Colm Mc Fadden who put in another good performance up front was not getting carried away with the win.
