The number of new cars sold in Ireland last month was down 35% on the same period last year following the end of the scrappage scheme in June.
In Donegal, the drop was even more stark, falling by 54% from 186 to 86.
Nationally, new car sales for the year to date are still up 10% compared to the first seven months of last year. Again, Donegal bucks the trend, with 1,906 cars sold so far in 2011 compared to 1,965 in the first seven months of last year, a fall of 3%.
Alan Nolan from the Society of the Irish Motor Industry says the figures show the importance of the scrappage scheme……….
