The number of drivers getting penalty points for speeding is on the increase, with figures for this year expected to surpass the numbers caught speeding in 2010.
The figures, obtained from a Dail question by Donegal North East Deputy Joe McHugh, show that in the first six months of this year over 96,000 drivers have received penalty points for speeding. The total for 2010 was 131,000.
In Donegal, 3,793 drivers were given points for speeding last year – In the first six months of this year, the figure is 2,039.
Deputy Mc Hugh says this suggests the vans are working, but he wants to see more comprehensive analysis of all relevant data before jumping to conclusions……
