Cllr calls for more leniency from planners

 

A Donegal councillor is calling for more leniency from planners in cases where local people are trying to build houses on their own land in rural areas.
Cllr Michael Mc Clafferty told a meeting of Glenties Municipal District that in many instances, planning decisions are going against the applicants in cases where better communication might have flagged the problem.
Planners told him that the policy is to facilitate local people where possible, but there have been times where applications approved by the council were subsequently rejected by An Bord Pleanala.
Cllr Mc Clafferty says it may need a change in the regulations:
