The Principal of Meenamara School near Dungloe has described as dreadful the news that the Department of Education is to withdraw funding forcing its closure.
The school celebrated its 100th anniversary last month and in recent years hundreds of thousand of euro has been spent in upgrading the school and its facilities.
While the school only has seven pupils, a meeting between its board of management and parents heard calls for efforts to grow the school rather than close it.
