A murder investigation has been launched in Glasgow following the death of an Inishowen man following what’s been described by police as an unprovoked attack.
57 year old William McKeeney, originally from Malin Head, was attacked by two men close to his home on Melville Street in the Pollokshields area of Glasgow at around 12.40am yesterday morning as he walked home after a night out.
Police say the attack took place just yards from Mr McKeeney’s home in the same street. He was taken by ambulance to the Victoria Infirmary where he died from his injuries.
Detective Chief Inspector David Gailey of Strathclyde Police said Mr McKeeney was making his way home after a night out when the attack took place a short distance from his home.
At the moment, he added, it would appear that it was a completely unprovoked and violent attack.
DCI Gailey said at this time, it’s not clear when Mr Mc Kinney met his attackers. He said the Malin Head native was well known in the area, and urged anyone who saw anything suspicious to contact police.
Mr Mc Keeney, who was in his late fifties, had moved to Glasgow a few years ago after working as a lorry driver in Inishowen for many years. Culdaff based Councillor Bernard mc Guinness says he was a well known and popular man………
