It’s been confirmed that the Lough Foyle service linking Greencastle and Magilligan will resume this weekend.
A weekend service will operate during March, and then from April to the end of September, a daily service will run.
The resumption of the service was confirmed in a joint statement issued this afternoon by the Lough Foyle Ferry Company, Donegal County Council and Limavady Borough Council.
The weekend service will start tomorrow, Friday March 16th.
Subject to weather conditions, an hourly service will operate in both directions from April to the end of September, leaving Greencastle on the top of the hour, and leaving Magilligan at quarter past the hour.
The first ferry leaves Greencastle at 9am, and the last ferry leaves Magilligan at 7.15pm. In July and August, an extra daily sailing will be added, with the last ferry at 8.15pm.
The ferry service was suspended at the beginning of last October, when the councils in Donegal and Limavady said they could no longer subsidise it. Agreement has now been secured for this summer, efforts to identify more long term funding sources are continuing.
