Almost half of all secondary schools have unfilled teaching positions, according to a Red C survey for the ASTI.
The survey of teachers also found 75 per cent have considered leaving the profession.
Over 80 per cent of principals and deputy principals say they’ve employed unqualified teachers to deal with the non-availability of teachers this year.
The survey also heard how the profession is ‘no longer attractive’, and how difficult it has become to find teachers, as people look to other careers and move abroad.
