Live Register figures for the end of last month have been released today by the Central Statistics Office, showing a fall in the numbers signing on in Donegal compared to March 2023.
There were 8,782 people on the registers in the county’s eight social welfare offices, a fall of 8% on the same period last year.
The sharpest fall in the numbers signing on was seen Killybegs with 502 people on the register, a fall of 24%.
There was a 15% decrease recorded in Dungloe, with 1,021 people signing on, while falls of 11% were recorded in both Buncrana and Ballyshannon with 1,581 and 1,029 on their respective registers.
Meanwhile, the Ballybofey office recorded 1070 people signing on, 9% less that the previous year.
The office in Donegal Town had 560 people signing on, a fall of 3%, while the county’s remaining two offices recorded marginal decreases of 1%, with 551 people on the register in Dunfanaghy and 2,477 signing on in Letterkenny.
