Vigil held in Derry for two women murdered just days apart

A vigil was held last night after two women were killed in County Derry – less than a week apart.

57 year old Sophie Watson’s body was discovered with a number of stab wounds in the Ashgrove Park area of Magherafelt on Sunday the 18th of August.

While 65 year old Montserrat Martorell was raped and killed the following Saturday.

She was found dead in a flat on Harvey Street in the city after a fire. Police say she suffered a horrific attack.

The crowd heard calls for an end to violence against women and girls.
