An amendment has been passed to see an increase of European funding to support the mental health of farmers.
Midlands Northwest MEP Maria Walsh wrote the proposal, citing the pressure faced by the sector.
Research indicates that farmers are 20% more likely to commit suicide than the general population.
MEP Walsh also highlighted the added strain caused by the ever-evolving environmental regulations, which can feel like a constantly moving target for farmers:
