Man remanded in custody over German Christmas market attack

A 50-year-old man’s been remanded in custody after appearing in court in Germany over Friday’s car attack at a Christmas market.

A vehicle ploughed into a crowd in the city of Magdeburg, killing five people, including a 9-year-old boy.

Describing himself as a former Muslim, the suspect – a Saudi doctor – allegedly shared dozens of social media posts focusing on anti-Islam themes.

Speaking through an interpreter – Germany’s Interior Minister, Nancy Faeser, says its a motive they’re investigating.
