Donegal Weather Updates – closures and service interruptions

As the cold snap continues, Donegal remains under a status yellow low temperature and ice warning.

Icy conditions on the roads are impacting services today with a number of schools closed.

Donegal County Council is urging motorists to assume no road is ice free. Gritters were deployed at 6am.

Service Interruptions:

  • Home James Bus services cancelled this morning
  • McGettigans Bus services cancelled
  • Gallagher’s school buses will not be operating to Illistrin National school this morning. They say a decision will be made by midday if the afternoon services will resume.
  • James Doherty buses Churchill will not be operating this morning
  • Travel Master Bus and Coach will not be operating their service to Carndonagh Community School this morning but will reevaluate later in regards to the evening service.
  • Glenswilly Bingo cancelled

Road conditions:

    • Reports of black ice on Cranford to Milford road
    • Reports of bad conditions on Galdonagh Road from Raphoe to Newtowncunningham
    • Gardai are appealing to motorists travelling between Stranorlar and Killygordon to drive with caution. It’s after a lorry went off the road at Cavan Lower yesterday. The lorry has since been removed and the road reopened. However, Gardai are warning motorists that as a result of the crash there is no longer a grass verge along the roadside and instead a drop into a drain.
