Chair of Defective Concrete Block Committee told Council does not have the authority to begin remediation works on social homes

The Chair of Donegal County Council’s Defective Concrete Block committee has been told the authority does not have the capacity to begin work on social home remediation ahead of a scheme being confirmed by government.

Cllr Tomás-Sean Devine raised the issue at a meeting of the committee this week, pointing out that many homes are virtually uninhabitable as it stands, and need work as quickly as possible.

However, officials told him that the council does not have the resources to embark on any remediation work itself, but will carry out some emergency work in order to allow people stay in their homes as much as possible.
