Miscarriage leave being considered by the Government

Miscarriage leave, which is being considered by the Government, will include women who have a termination before 12 weeks.

The proposals would give women who experience a pregnancy loss before 23 weeks five days of paid leave.

Currently, women who lose a pregnancy after 23 weeks are entitled to support under the Maternity Benefit.

Employment Minister Peter Burke is hoping to bring draft legislation to Cabinet in the coming weeks:
