Mc Gowan holds “clear the air” meeting with Donegal Garda Chief after emigration comment in letter

The Vice Chairperson of the Donegal Joint Policing Committee has met with Chief Superintendent Terry Mc Ginn today to discuss her claim in a letter this month that high emigration levels among 18 to 30 year olds is driving down demand for drugs in Donegal.
The comments were made by the Chief Superintendent in a letter to the CEO of the Education and Training Board, which has replaced the VEC in the county.
The letter was raised at a special meeting of Donegal County Council to discuss crime in the county, with a number of members expressing anger at the claim.
During what Cllr Mc Gowan described as a useful meetig this afteroon, the Chief Superintendent said it was not her intention to criminalise anyone. He says they cleared the air, and gardai, the council, the JPC and the ETB are all working towards the one goal ; to reduce the threat of drugs in Donegal……..
