The new Interim Outpatient Department for Letterkenny General Hospital has been formally handed over to management, and will be fully operational by next Monday.
The Outpatient Department was one of the areas damaged by flood waters earlier this year, and Outpatient clinics were relocated to a number of different temporary locations within the hospital and around the town and county.
By Monday, all outpatient clinics that are not currently being held in the hospital will run from this new location beside the Primary Care Centre in Scally Place at the rear of Letterkenny Courthouse.
Hospital Manager Sean Murphy says three quarters of the 80,000 out patient appointments given by the hospital each year will be held in the new building, which has 27 clinical rooms, as well as blood and x-ray facilities.
He says the extra capacity in the new building reflects the expansion plans that were in place before the flood…………
