Donegal North East Deputy Charlie Mc Conalogue says cutbacks to guidance counsellors must be reversed after an ESRI report highlighted their importance to working class students.
The study says students in less well-off schools are more reliant on advice from guidance services than better off schools, where pupils are more likely to have advice from parents who’ve gone through third level.
Deputy Mc Conalogue says this underlines the impact of the Government’s cutbacks to guidance counsellors, and says the upcoming budget must be used to reinstate the service.
He says it’s effecting the ability of many students to reach their potential……….
