Man Charged with causing death of Garda McLoughlin

A 24-year-old Donegal man has been charged with dangerous driving causing the death of Garda Gary McLoughlin last month.

Martin McDermott of Castlegrove, Raphoe was charged with the offence at Letterkenny District court today.
Garda Gary McLoughlin was critically injured at Lisfannon, Burt, Co Donegal, on 13 December when his patrol car was struck by a vehicle, he died in hospital 24 hours later.
He and Garda Bernard McLoughlin, who suffered a broken leg, became involved in a search for a red Opel Astra, after it was seen driving at high speed from a filling station near Buncrana.
Today, Martin McDermott was arrested at Letterkenny District Court by Seargent Martin Egan of Buncrana Garda Station.
Sergeant Egan told the court that Mr Dermott made no reply when charged.
He was remanded in custody to appear at Harristown Court on 16 January.
