Gary Donnelly loses appeal for assault

Leading Derry dissident republican Gary Donnelly was today (Thursday) sentenced to 7 months in prison after he lost his appeal for assaulting a PSNI Inspector.
Donnelly (39) from Kildrum Gardens in Derry’s Creggan Estate had been convicted in January of assaulting Inspector John Neal in November 2007 in an incident in which Donnelly sustained a broken arm.
He appealed against the conviction and after a two day hearing this week Judge Piers Grant upheld the conviction.
